Syria moves from dollars to euros
DAMASCUS, Syria, Feb. 14 (UPI)
Syrian officials are dropping the U.S. dollar as the currency Damascus uses to make overdue exportation, importation and services payments. Instead, the government will use the euro for such purposes, the news service MENA said Tuesday.
A government spokesman said the move was necessitated by "threats from the USA against Syria that would result in complicating the banking procedures and the transfer operations into the country from corresponding banks in Europe."
